In ancient times, it was called “Bathing the Buddha Festival” since temples would carry out such activities as bathing the Buddha and setting captive animals free. Under the reign of Mingde in the Ming Dynasty, this custom gradually diminished whereas customs of eating black rice and holding the temple fair have been handed down. On the eighth day of the fourth month every year, black rice is sold in the strrets. On this day, the temple fair is mostly held at such places as Red-flower Town converged with lots of goods for daily use in addition to cultural performances in a passionate atmosphere.
