It was the former residence of Wu Jingzi, author of “Unofficial history of the literati.” Born in an official family marked y “Three No. One Scholars and Six heads of the Governmental Department in Four Generations”, Wu Jingzi was extraordinarily intelligent and eloquent. He became a Xiucai (a scholar who passed the imperial civil examination at the county level in the Qing Dynasty) at the age of 15 through examination. At the age of 35, he and his family moved from Quanjiao county of Anhui province to settle down by the Qinhuai River in Nanjing, with this water-pavilion as the residence for 19 years in succession. It was here that he completed the satirical novel named “Unofficial history of the literati.”
