The Old South End•Mendong Historical and Cultural District

Because of its location in the east of Zhonghua Gate Castle, the district is called Mendong in Chinese, which means east of the gate. On the basis of preserving a great amount of historical buildings and sites under government protection, it rebuilt old factories into Nanjing Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Jinling Art Museum and Old Southern City Memory Pavilion and imported ateliers, shops of a century's standing, places of culture and antique gallery. It has become a cultural district integrating history, culture, entertainment and sightseeing.
